Ava Spark: Hello I'm Here longlisted for the Spark Awards
Ava Spark pulls on the heartstrings and will engage a broad range of early readers. Ava Spark Hello I’m Here draws on Alex Field’s own observations of her son as he navigated school life with a communication aide.
Ava’s family of three are under pressure. Mum has to keep calling London Underground to check if the lifts are working for Ava’s wheelchair. It’s no wonder she goes on her wellness retreats. As for Ava’s twin sister Flo, she is the well behaved one except for when she leaves the bath running and floods the house.
Ava likes doing all the things other children do. When new girl Liv arrives at Ava’s school, from Australia, Ava is asked to be her buddy. Will Ava, who struggles herself to be heard, be able to encourage shy Liv to use her words?
